As a reserve member attached to the uss guadalcanal out of ammityville n.y. We sailed with the guad in 1987 from norva to rota spain, where we were detached and flew back to n.y. The guad sailed for the med then it was sent to the persian gulf to protect the tankers that flew the american flag.
Tim Magruder, OS2 (SW) 84-89 it was dangerous we had no idea how close we came to defending ourselves, but we were ready.
CIC was on port & report duty. One thing was liberty at the American compound in Kuwait where US citizens took a sailor to dinner at their home. and that was the 1st time I had homemade brew. It was great seeing US citizens there when we could have hit a mine and made not make it.
